Sant Carles de la Ràpita is not a town that fades away in winter.

You will find festivals, events, and traditions throughout the year — from the Festes Majors in July that bring the town to a standstill for 10 days to the Orígens in October, where the entire Xicago neighbourhood is transformed into a historical recreation at street level. This calendar tells you what is happening, when, and why it is worth visiting. If you wish, we can notify you before each event so you can book in advance.

Annual Calendar of Festivals and Events in La Ràpita [2026]

February — Jornades Gastronòmiques de la Carxofa (Artichoke)

  • What it is: Gastronomic days dedicated to the artichoke of the Ebro Delta, with special menus in restaurants throughout the region. They are celebrated in Amposta (15 minutes from La Ràpita) but many restaurants in La Ràpita participate.
  • When: February (variable dates, usually the second half).
  • For whom: Foodies and gastronomic tourists. The Delta's artichoke is famous — and for good reason. If you are interested in the gastronomy of the Ebro Delta in depth, we have a complete guide.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (it is regional, not centered in La Ràpita, but it is noticeable).

Tip: Book in participating restaurants in advance. Weekends fill up.

March/April — Holy Week and Spring Season

  • What it is: There is no specific massive event, but Holy Week marks the real beginning of the tourist season. Traditional processions through the center and the first terraces of the year.
  • When: Holy Week (variable according to the year).
  • For whom: Families and couples looking for tranquility. The Delta in spring, with flooded rice fields, is spectacular.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (there is noticeable activity, but no overcrowding).

June — Festa de la Plantada de l'Arròs

  • What it is: Celebration of the rice planting in the Delta. Cultural activities, demonstrations of traditional sowing, gastronomy, and music. It is a festival that connects the town to its star product.
  • When: Third Sunday of June (approximately).
  • For whom: Families, cultural and rural tourism. Ideal if you want to understand where the rice you eat comes from.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (it is an authentic local festival, without tourist artificiality).

The best part: You can participate in the rice planting. Barefoot, in the mud of the rice field, planting shoots by hand as it was done before. Children love it.

July — Festes del Carme (Festes de Barri)

  • What it is: Festivals of the fishermen's neighborhood in honor of the Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of fishermen. Maritime procession with decorated boats, sardanas, verbenas, and authentic neighborhood atmosphere.
  • When: Around July 16th.
  • For whom: If you want to experience the festival of the fishermen's neighborhood, this is it. It is not touristy, it is local. And that's the good part.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (fishermen's neighborhood in its pure state).

July — Festes Majors de Sant Jaume (THE BIG FESTIVAL)

  • What it is: The biggest festival of the year. 10 days of total celebration. More than 120 activities: correfocs (fire runs), bous embolats (bulls with fire on their horns), castellers (human towers), havaneres, concerts, orchestra verbenas, sardanas, sports competitions, children's activities, Morra championship, and fireworks on the beach on Sant Jaume's day (July 25th).
  • When: From July 18th to 28th (approximately).
  • For whom: For everyone. It is the festival that defines La Ràpita. If you can only! come once a year, make it this week. Check our guide on what to do in La Ràpita in a week to make the most of your days.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (the whole city vibrates. There is no night without music, no day without activity).

What you cannot miss:

  • Bous embolats: If you have never seen bulls with fireballs on their horns running through the streets while people dodge, this is a unique experience from the southern Mediterranean. You won't see it anywhere else in Europe.
  • Correfocs: Devils with fireworks running among the public. Wear old clothes and closed shoes.
  • Havaneres on the beach: Choral singing of sea shanties on the beach, with ron cremat (flamed rum punch). Magical night. And if you're into adrenaline, kitesurfing in El Trabucador is another way to experience the coast.

- **Castellers**: Human towers up to 8 stories high. It is an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. - **Fireworks**: On July 25th, on the beach. Spectacular over the water of the bay.

Book well in advance. The Festes Majors fill La Ràpita and the entire region. If you want central accommodation, book at least 1-2 months in advance. Apartments with a terrace to watch the fireworks from home are the first to sell out.

August — Festes de Barri (various neighborhoods)

  • What it is: After the Festes Majors, the different neighborhoods of La Ràpita celebrate their own festivals throughout August. They are smaller, more intimate, and more local. Neighborhood verbenas, outdoor popular dinners, contests, and games for children.
  • When: Spread throughout August (each neighborhood has its week).
  • For whom: If you like authentic neighborhood festivals, without large stages or mass tourism, this is your plan.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (it depends on the neighborhood, but there is always something).

September — Festes de la Mare de Déu de la Ràpita

  • What it is: Patron saint festivals of the l'Espanyol neighborhood in honor of the Virgin of La Ràpita (September 8th). Offering of fruits and flowers, solemn mass, the legendary Campionat de Morra (an ancestral game of guessing with fingers, shouting, which is crazy to see) and cultural activities.
  • When: Around September 8th.
  • For whom: Pure local culture. The Campionat de Morra is hypnotic — two people shouting numbers at each other's face while throwing their fingers. It seems chaotic but has strict rules.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (neighborhood festival with a lot of character).

Curious fact: Morra is an ancient Mediterranean game with Roman origins. In La Ràpita, it is played with a passion you won't see anywhere else. The championships are to the death (figuratively).

October — ORÍGENS (The Star Event of Autumn)

  • What it is: Large-scale historical recreation of life in La Ràpita at the beginning of the 20th century. The entire Xicago neighborhood (the fishermen's neighborhood) is transformed: residents dress up in period clothing, traditional crafts are recreated (fishermen, salt workers, farmers), there are demonstrations of craftsmanship, traditional gastronomy cooked on the street, folk music, and theater.
  • When: Around the Puente del Pilar (October 12th), usually the second weekend of October (3 days).
  • For whom: Obligatory. It is the most powerful cultural event in La Ràpita. If you are interested in history, gastronomy, and traditions, Orígens is your weekend.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (the city is fully engaged, it is impressive).

What you cannot miss:

  • The Xicago neighborhood recreated: The streets are transformed with period decoration. Houses open to the public, esparto workshops, fishing nets, street cooking.
  • Gastronomy live: Traditional dishes cooked on the spot in the streets. Try the xapadillo de anguila and the coquetes. And if you want to know where to eat well in La Ràpita the rest of the year, we have recommendations.
  • Sea and land crafts: Demonstrations of salt workers (with special prominence of the Salinas de la Trinidad), fishermen mending nets, farmers with period tools.
  • Activities for children: Workshops, traditional games, and parades.

Orígens is not a generic medieval fair. It is the real history of this town, told by the people who live here. The "actors" are the neighbors themselves — the retired fisherman explaining how knots were made, the grandmother cooking rice on wood as her mother did. It is truly authentic.

October — Oktoberfest La Ràpita

  • What it is: One of the most popular Oktoberfests in the province of Tarragona. Live music, artisanal and imported beer, gastronomy, and good atmosphere in the Pavelló Firal (covered fair pavilion).
  • When: Last weekend of October (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Free admission.
  • For whom: Groups of friends, couples, and anyone who enjoys good beer and music. It is a perfect plan for a Saturday night if you are in the area.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (it fills the pavilion and there is a great atmosphere).

Free admission, but VIP tables can be reserved in advance at ebreticket.cat. If you are going with a large group, reserve a table.

December — Christmas Market and Christmas Festivals

  • What it is: Christmas market with craft and local product stalls, children's workshops, family activities, and festive decoration. Smaller than the markets in Barcelona or Tarragona, but with local charm.
  • When: December (variable dates, usually the last two weeks before Christmas).
  • For whom: Families and weekend getaways at Christmas. The Delta in winter has a special light and there are no tourists.
  • Level of atmosphere in La Ràpita: (quiet but welcoming).
